“トインビーと創価学会”・・・マクニール著「TOYNBEE」より

• トインビーの視点からみて、創価学会はまさに、歴史的な時期としての（現在）に対する彼の洞察の中で期待していたものであった。それは新しい教会（→世界教会）であり、キリスト教の後の世界の周辺に立ち上がり、主に内的プロレタリアート（→社会構造の中に組み込まれてはいるがほとんど無権利状態におかれている人びと)にアピールし、その正当性は古い時代の迫害された信仰に由来する。
• （創価学会と）初期キリスト教史との比較は、かなり心躍る経験であり、トインビーは英訳された池田の著作の一つ（小説「人間革命」）に書いた序文の中で、明示的に創価学会の世界宣教（mission）とローマ帝国内において勢力となる前夜のキリスト教教会を比較している。

• To another remonstarance he replied:"Mr Ikeda's personality is strong and dynamic and such characters are often controversial.My own feeling for Mr.Ikeda is one of great respect and sympathy."他の諫言、いさめに対して彼は「池田氏の個性は強力で、ダイナミックでありそのような性格はたびたび物議を醸すことがある。私自身は池田氏に対して、偉大な尊敬と共感を感じている」と答えている。
